N. Nadkarni et Rp. Lisak, GUILLAIN-BARRE-SYNDROME (GBS) WITH BILATERAL OPTIC NEURITIS AND CENTRAL WHITE MATTER DISEASE, Neurology, 43(4), 1993, pp. 842-843
A patient with acute Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), recovering followi
ng plasmapheresis, developed bilateral optic neuritis with extensive C
NS white matter lesions on MRI. This illness was associated with Mycop
lasma pneumoniae infection. The rare association of GBS with CNS disea
se raises a possibility of a shared pathogenic CNS and PNS epitope in
these cases.
