Abstract
Male adult rals were fed with diets containing 20% of casein or soybea n proteins supplemented with 0.70 % or 1.26% of sodium carrageenan res pectively during 6 weeks. At the end of experiment, rats were killed a nd blood was taken for lipids analysis. Soy protein decreased signific antly the plasma cholesterol (0.74 +/- 0.21 vs 0.53 +/- 0.16 g/1) and the triglycerides (2.13 +/- 0.66 vs 1.52 +/- 0.46 g/1) in rats when co mpared with casein protein. Sodium carrageenan had an hypotriglyceride mic effect when it was added to casein diets (1.62 +/- 0.35 g/l vs 2.1 3 +/- 0.66 in control diet). In the soy diet, sodium carrageenan had n o effect on plasma triglycerides of adult rats (1.52 0.46 vs 1.64 +/- 0.54 g/l).
