In addition to diosgenin, tigogenin, tomatidenol, tomatidine, leptinid
ine, 5alpha,6-dihydroleptinidine, solasodine and soladulcidine, a new
alkaloid has been isolated from the roots of Solanum panduraeforme, wh
ich has been identified as (23R)-23-hydroxysoladulcidine R,25R)-5alpha
,22alphaN-spirosolane-3beta,23-diol]. The stereochemistry of some sola
nidanes is discussed.
