Abstract
Hydrostatic pressure measurements of the threshold current of 1.3 mu m compressively strained InGaAsP multiple quantum well lasers show an i nitial decrease up to 1.2 GPa followed by an increase at higher pressu res. This behavior is explained by considering the changes in the diff erential gain and optical losses determined from measurements of the s pontaneous emission and of the external differential efficiency as a f unction of pressure, respectively.
