The mental health status of a general population sample of Cambodian r
efugees living in the United States was assessed ten years after they
had left their homes in Cambodia. Subjects were found to be experienci
ng extremely high levels of post-traumatic stress disorder, dissociati
on, depression, and anxiety. Ninety percent of these refugees exhibite
d marked symptomatology in one or more of these categories.
