L. Moret et al., INTERNAL VALIDATION OF A SCALE - RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINCIPAL COMPONENT ANALYSIS - CRONBACH ALPHA AND RELIABILITY, Revue d'epidemiologie et de sante publique, 41(2), 1993, pp. 179-186
The objective is to establish a simple relationship between two freque
ntly used validation techniques which have been developed in the liter
ature along the same lines: Principal Component Analysis and Cronbach'
s alpha. We have shown that under certain conditions, it is possible t
o estimate the reliability by using the results of a Principal Compone
nt Analysis only. Moreover, we report the relation between Cronbach's
alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient, which are both used to e
stimate the reliability of continuous measures.
