Abstract
The effect of age on verbal fluency was studied in 84 healthy voluntee rs, ages 45 to 91 years, who performed letter-fluency and semantic-flu ency tasks. Older subjects (75 to 91 yr.) performed as well as younger (50 to 64 yr.) on letter fluency but did significantly worse on seman tic category fluency. This pattern is similar to that observed in Alzh eimer-type dementia.
