TRANSFER VOLUME ACCURACY - CALIBRATED WIRE AND PLASTIC LOOPS

The urine volume delivered via the calibrated loop technique for quant itating microorganisms can vary by as much as +/-50%. This discrepancy results from investigator technique differences, as well as variation s in wire gauges and the internal diameters of loops. Using the Evans blue dye procedure, we tested calibrated twisted-wire loops and dispos able plastic loops and compared them with standard platinum loops.
