E. Vanfaassen, EXACT STATISTICAL-MODEL ACCOUNTING FOR SURFACE FLUCTUATIONS IN 2-DIMENSIONAL DROPLETS, Physical review. E, Statistical physics, plasmas, fluids, and related interdisciplinary topics, 47(3), 1993, pp. 2197-2200
In a soluble model we investigate the role of geometrical shape fluctu
ations for the equilibrium properties of a polydisperse ensemble of tw
o-dimensional droplets. Interactions within a droplet include bending
rigidity and spontaneous curvature. Interactions between droplets are
omitted. Taking rigorous account of all possible shapes of the individ
ual droplets, the droplet-size distribution is found for arbitrary tem
perature. The fluctuation-dominated regime extends to temperatures far
lower than expected from a mean-field calculation.
