The influence of ionic concentration of pore solution and matrix poros
ity on high frequency resistance (HFR) of hydrated cement paste were c
arefully studied. A new relation between HFR and porosity has been der
ived and its validity demonstrated by a series of experiments. A bette
r description of the intrinsic value and physical meaning of HFR is pr
esented. A convenient means of characterizing microstructural developm
ent in hydrating cement or concrete systems is provided by the A.C. im
pedance technique.
