Abstract
Two experimental techniques have been developed to determine mechanica l properties of the interfacial zone between cement paste and rock. Th e first technique is based on ISRM Method I, and involves measuring bo nd fracture properties from chevron notched specimens of rock, paste, or rock/paste. The second technique uses composite compression cylinde rs to determine the influence of interfaces on the stiffness of compos ite materials. The techniques are described, and some preliminary resu lts are presented.
