R. Bohmer et al., THE GLASS-TRANSITION IN (KI)0.5(ND4I)0.5 MIXED-CRYSTALS AS STUDIED BYDEUTERON SPIN-LATTICE RELAXATION, Solid state communications, 86(3), 1993, pp. 183-186
Nuclear spin resonance has been used to study the deuteron magnetizati
on recovery in (KI)0.5(ND4I)0.5 mixed crystals. At high temperatures t
he spin-lattice-relaxation is exponential. For T less than or similar
to 45 K deviations from this simple behaviour occur, signalling the on
set of spatial inhomogeneities due to the formation of an orientationa
l glass. The results demonstrate that the transition of (KI)0.5(ND4I)0
.5 into the glassy state is driven by the freezing of random bonds.
