Abstract
The performance characteristics of semiconductor lasers for fiber tele communication systems will be reviewed. Modulation speed, intensity no ise, single-frequency line width, and tunability are addressed. In add ition, recent results concerning the same characteristics in single-fr equency, tunable, fiber lasers are reviewed and compared with the semi conductor laser.
