The paper presents some laboratory investigations carried out to evalu
ate the effects of alkalinity and hydrogen peroxide dosage on the qual
ity of pulp obtained from Asclepias syrica fiber by alkaline-peroxide
treatments. A number of testing indices were used to characterize the
pulp, such as: plup yield, brightness, carboxylate content and paperma
king potential. The experiments performed evidenced that alkalinity va
riation leads to obtaining of pulp with different papermaking properti
es.
