Abstract
A PIXE analysis has been performed on a small set of potsherds to expl ore the possibility of application of the method in future systematic analyses of the vast pottery production of medieval Italy for integrat ion in historical and archeological studies. The samples analysed are from the Savona, Liguria and Pisa, Toscany regions, representing potte ry types Graffita Arcaica Tirrenica, Ingobbiata Chiara, Ingobbiata Col orata and Maiolica Arcaica. PIXE analyses of Pb and Sn provide charact eristic signals to distinguish different glazes.
