Mj. Chambers et Sd. Alexander, ASSESSMENT AND PREDICTION OF OUTCOME FOR A BRIEF BEHAVIORAL INSOMNIA TREATMENT PROGRAM, Journal of behavior therapy and experimental psychiatry, 23(4), 1992, pp. 289-297
This study examined (a) the efficacy, and (b) predictors of outcome of
a brief (one to four sessions) behavioral treatment program for chron
ic insomnia. A total of 103 insomnia patients were treated, and outcom
e was assessed by a follow-up questionnaire. Outcome variables, includ
ing both nocturnal sleep parameters and measures of daytime functionin
g, showed significant improvement subsequent to treatment. Pretreatmen
t sleep hygiene practices were significantly correlated with daytime f
atigue and sleep latency outcome factors. Pre- and post-treatment comp
laints of daytime fatigue were associated with somatic complaints in g
eneral, but not with nocturnal sleep variables. Explanatory hypotheses
are discussed.
