Aj. Palmer et al., COMBINED INFRARED-EMISSION SPECTRA AND RADAR REFLECTIVITY STUDIES OF CIRRUS CLOUDS, IEEE transactions on geoscience and remote sensing, 31(1), 1993, pp. 64-69
Thermal-infrared emission spectra from cirrus clouds taken with a uniq
ue prism spectrograph are combined with K(a)-band radar reflectivity m
easurements to obtain mass concentration and size information on the c
irrus ice crystals. A two-stream radiation transfer model utilizing Mi
e scattering theory was used to infer averaged effective ice sphere di
ameters which, for the cirrus studied, was near 50 mum.
