ugar chain of L-mannonic acid hydrazide shows the expected all-trans c
onformation. The hydrogen-bond pattern includes a homodromic cycle wit
h a special connectivity that is also realized in several other open-c
hain sugar derivatives with different chirality. The relationship betw
een the dimensions of the crystal lattice and the occurrence of this s
pecial cycle is discussed.
