Abstract
A brief review concerning Troodos ophiolite massif (Cyprus island) has been given together with three basic conceptions of its formation. Ul tramafic lavas of the upper part of Troodos effusive complex in the ma in regions of their appearance (Margi and Kalavasos) are emphasized. T hree types of ultramafic volcanites have been found on the basis of pe trochemical, geochemical and mineralogical study. Ia and Ib types were found in North Troodos (Margi and Politico regions). They have differ ent contents of moderate incompatible elements: Al, Tb, Ti, Hf, Sm (Ib is comaratively poorer) as well as different types of olivine hystogr ams and Mg contents of the olivine (olivines of Ib type are more Mg-ri ch). Type III was found in South Troodos (Kalavasos region). It is har dly depleted by Tb, Ti, Hf, Eu, Sm, it contains magnesium orthopyroxen e and its spinel has minimal Ti content.
