Serratia ficaria, which was described in 1979 by Grimont et al, is clo
sely involved in the ecosystem of figs. Some isolations from human cli
nical specimens have been reported but the pathogenicity of the bacter
ium has always been open to question. We report the isolation of S. fi
caria from gallbladder empyema fluid and discuss its pathogenicity and
susceptibility to antibiotics.
