Abstract
A major goal of this review article is to show that nutritional physio logy in normal man is rather different from patients bearing an inflam matory response. Known nutrients and a variety of energy sources revea l pharmacological actions during such metabolic circumstances. An unde rstand of the pathophysiologic state of sepsis is essential for adequa te nutritional support especially in this patient population.
