New acyclic ruthenium(II) bipyridyl-pyridinium receptor molecules have
been synthesised. H-1 NMR spectroscopy, and cyclic and square wave vo
ltammetry have established these receptors complex and electrochemical
ly sense the chloride anion. Disappointingly spectral detection of hal
ide anions by electronic absorption and fluorescence-emission spectros
copic measurements was unsuccessful.
