Abstract
The membrane-associated protein squalene-hopene cyclase from Alicyclob acillus acidocaldarius was overexpressed in Escherichia coli and purif ied by ion exchange and gel permeation chromatography Crystals of thre e interrelated forms were grown by vapor diffusion under identical con ditions. The crystals diffract to about 2.3 Angstrom resolution, but t hey are unstable in the X-ray beam. An interpretable heavy-atom deriva tive was obtained.
