Ng. Chekoev et Ag. Morachevskii, EFFECT OF ADDITION OF GRAPHITE AND LITHIUM AND POTASSIUM HALIDES ON THE POTENTIAL OF A SULFUR ELECTRODE, Journal of applied chemistry of the USSR, 65(5), 1992, pp. 955-957
The effect of addition of graphite powder or a mixture of alkali metal
halides on the potential of a sulfur electrode containing lithium was
experimentally investigated at 693 K. The electrode was separated fro
m the molten electrolyte by a solid glassy electrolyte membrane with l
ithium ion conductivity. The potential of the sulfur electrode was mea
sured relative to the lithium reference electrode. Incorporation of 6.
2 to 23.4 wt. % graphite in the lithium - sulfur electrode did not aff
ect its potential, which remained equal to 2.194+/-0.001 V. When LiCl-
KCl or LiF-LiCl-LiI eutectic salt mixtures were added to the electrode
, the electrode potential increased slightly, indicating a phase inter
action.
