Abstract
Several advances have been made in our understanding of hepatic physio logy including 1) ongoing work aimed at identifying and characterizing membrane transport proteins involved in the vectorial movement of end ogenous and exogenous solutes from sinusoidal blood to bile, 2) furthe r refining of the mechanistic model of bile formation, and 3) studies determining the factors underlying bile acid and protein synthesis by the liver.
