The new complexes Mo(NO)LX(OC6H4C6H4OR) (L = HB (3,5-Me2C3N2H)3; X = C
l, I, OC6H4C6H4OR; R = C6H13, C8H17, C12H25) have been synthesised and
characterised by spectroscopic methods. All undergo one-electron redu
ction processes at potentials ranging from -0.28 V (SCE) for the mono-
substituted complexes to -0.67 V for the bis-aryloxo compounds. Differ
ential scanning calorimetry and hot-stage polarising microscopy studie
s of these compounds do not reveal any liquid crystalline mesophases.
