Disturbances in the stability of charge materials distribution in blas
t furnaces due to effects produced by the energy of the filling gas in
the interbell space are considered, and relevant operating data on tw
o blast furnaces are analysed. The introduction of blast furnace opera
ting technology with a new gas seal design enables distribution to be
stabilised with a corresponding improvement in the technical and econo
mic operating indices and in hot metal quality. Interest in the techno
logy, including from abroad, suggests that it could be widely applied.
