Abstract
The design and use of a permanent hot top that is fitted over the oute r surface of the wide faces of big end down ingot moulds in the pourin g of killed steels are described. The application of this technology h as enabled the use of conventional hot tops and heat insulating tiles to be dispensed with, which has reduced production costs.
