A. Boman et al., SENSITIZING POTENTIAL OF TRIETHANOLAMINE STUDIED WITH THE GUINEA-PIG MAXIMIZATION TEST METHOD, Dermatosen in Beruf und Umwelt, 41(2), 1993, pp. 58-59
Triethanolamine is claimed to be a contact allergen, but some of the r
eactions reported may be due to irritancy and/or cross or concomitant
reactivity to other amines present in the test preparations. In our re
cent Guinea pig maximization test, none of the animals reacted Trietha
nolamine was then classified as a weak (Grade I) allergen. We plan to
perform a similar study with other alkanolamines, known to be present
in samples of triethanolamine, and hope to identify the primary sensit
izer, if any.
