Abstract
We show that the wall-localized convection states observed in Rayleigh -Benard convection in rotating cylindrical cells can be explained in t erms of a geometry-independent traveling-wave wall state. We calculate the onset Rayleigh number, frequency, and wave number of such a state , as well as its amplitude equation. We also study the large-rotation- rate asymptotic behavior and the small-rotation-rate limit.
