The older population has increased in proportion and numbers within th
e United States, and family life educators have been developing progra
ms for these individuals. Family life education programs have addresse
d several issues for later life family members, including marriage, se
xuality, retirement and family life, widowhood, intergenerational rela
tions, and caregiving. For each of these issues, research is briefly r
eviewed, educational programs are discussed, and issues for the future
are noted Seven guidelines for the development of family life educati
on programs for the later years are presented.
