Sc. Dilsaver et al., CHRONIC TREATMENT WITH VALPROATE DECREASES THE HYPOTHERMIC RESPONSE TO CLONIDINE, Pharmacology, biochemistry and behavior, 45(1), 1993, pp. 247-249
Treatment with lithium (the prototype of an antimanic agent) attenuate
s responsiveness to the alpha2-agonist clonidine in animal models. Val
proate is now used to treat mania. The effect of treatment with this d
rug on responses mediated by an alpha2-agonist have yet to be reported
. The authors assessed the effect of a 14-day course of orally adminis
tered valproate on the rat's hypothermic response to clonidine. Treatm
ent with valproate decreased this response.
