With a view to economy in metal consumption, it is appropriate to make
wider use of cast aluminum alloys instead of worked alloys, particula
rly for the production of critical components. It is thus necessary th
at the castings have a high level of mechanical properties, particular
ly ductile failure, since the reliability of aluminum alloy components
depends on this property. The current paper presents the results of r
esearch into the ductile failure and structure of silumins in the cast
condition and after heat treatment.
