Sa. Kumar, THE NEED FOR PROTECTION OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY-RIGHTS FOR INDIAN INVENTIONS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY, Journal of Scientific & Industrial Research, 52(4), 1993, pp. 304-307
A change in Indian Patents Act to protect Indian ingenuity is a need w
hich will benefit the country by the participation of Indian Industry
investing in R & D. The situation in biotechnology and its rapid growt
h in India portends the possibility that India can play a significant
role in inventing new and novel products of therapeutic value. The inv
estment made by India in training scientific personnel and the infrast
ructure built will not be lost in value if product and process patent
protection is introduced in India. This optimism is justified taking i
nto consideration the experience of change in other countries.
