Py. Apel et al., STRUCTURALLY SELECTIVE PROPERTIES OF NUCLEAR-PORE FILTERS BASED ON POLYPROPYLENE, Colloid journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 54(4), 1992, pp. 629-632
Using IR spectroscopy, we have established that bombardment of polypro
pylene with accelerated Xe+6 ions leads to radiation-induced and post-
radiation oxidation with formation of carbonyl and hydroxyl groups and
amorphization of its structure. Upon subsequent treatment of the bomb
arded polymer with sulfuric acid-dichromate cleaning solution, we see
formation of not only a porous structure but also of a surface thin la
yer (approximately 0.01 mum) with amorphous structure. We present the
results of a study of the structurally selective properties of nuclear
-pore filters obtained on the basis of thin polypropylene films bombar
ded with accelerated heavy ions and etched with sulfuric acid-dichroma
te cleaning solution.
