We have studied the mechanism for flocculation of fibrous suspensions
by a polyethylene oxide - activator polymer complex. We have establish
ed that flocculation is accomplished by fibrillar formations of the po
lymer complex. The supermolecular network formed in the suspension ful
fills the role of a three-dimensional filter for kinetic particles of
the suspension, without trapping the colloidal substances, which is de
termined by its geometric parameters.
