A concept is put forward for describing the mobility of structural ele
ments in a DNA-type macromolecule. Conformational excitations only wea
kly sensitive to the heterogeneity of the macromolecule are shown to b
e possible in DNA. The dependence of the low-energy excitation spectru
m of the macromolecule on its nucleotide composition is determined, an
d the thermal sensitivity of the spectrum is predicted.
