The feeding ecology of the Genet (Genetta genetta Linne, 1758) has bee
n studied in the national park of Djurdjura (Tala-Guilef's station) fr
om 1989 to 1990. The analysis of 208 faeces allowed the identification
of 1606 alimentary preys, distributed in 6 taxonomical categories. Fr
om the frequency of appearance point of view, mammals represent the ma
jority of the preys ingested, followed by the arthropods. Birds and pl
ants appear in proportions relatively similar while reptiles and amphi
biens are less consumed. The wood mice represents 83,5 % of the mammal
ian preys. This predatory pressure exerted essentially on Apodemus syl
vaticus, varies independently of the abundance of this rodent's popula
tions in the area of study.
