We report two young patients with a painful and rapidly progressive po
lyneuropathy of the mononeuritis multiplex type confinding them to bed
. Extensive investigations led to the diagnosis of a granulomatosis in
both: Churg-Strauss allergic granulomatosis in one and Wegener's gran
ulomatosis in the other. The importance and frequency of peripheral ne
rvous system manifestations in the presenting clinical pattern of a sy
stemic granulomatosis and vasculitis are discussed. Their proper recog
nition with regard to available effective therapeutic measures is stre
ssed.
