We report a case of primary salmonella infection of a dacron aortofemo
ral bypass graft. Local graft excision with extra-anatomic bypass resu
lted in a successful outcome. Salmonella, whilst the commonest cause o
f infected abdominal aortic aneurysms, is currently a rare cause of pr
osthetic graft infection. However, given the increasing prevalence of
salmonellosis in the community, we believe this situation will change
and surgeons should be alert to this new and dangerous addition to the
list of graft pathogens.
