The relationship of ceruloplasmin (Cp), an anti-inflammatory protein,
and copper was investigated in high yielding Holstein cows. Cp activit
y is often used as an indicator of copper status. The Cu and Cp concen
trations ranged between 0.75-1.20 mug/ml and 3.00-15.80 mg/gl respecti
vely, and indicated no deficiency in copper. The concentration of Cp c
orrelated closely with the serum copper level (r = 0.675).
