ComparatiVe Fe-57 Mossbauer studies on amorphous Fe40Ni40B20 ribbon sp
ecimens have been made. Using conventional and pulse super-ambient ann
ealing procedures we investigated their relative effects on magnetic r
elaxation and structural stability against crystallization. The result
s are interpreted in terms of various structural relaxations and order
ing mechanisms. The onset of crystallization is clearly detected at th
e ribbon surfaces. Segregation of boron, which is a precursor to cryst
allization in the present system, is smaller for pulse than for conven
tional annealing procedures.
