In order to investigate the effects of Na ions to the hyperfine parame
ters of Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions in xNa2O-(40-x)Fe2O3-60P2O5 glasses, the co
mpositional dependencies of isomer shift (IS) and quadrupole splitting
(QS) for Fe3+ and Fe2+ ions were measured by Mossbauer spectroscopy.
It was found that IS and QS of Fe3+ ions were influenced even at a sma
ll Na2O content, but those of Fe2+ ions were influenced at a Na2O cont
ent of larger than 20 mol.%. The latter was related to the formation o
f nonbridging oxygen (NBO).
