Advantages and disadvantages of high-field Mossbauer phase analysis ar
e discussed. As examples, two industrial samples were investigated. On
e sample is a corroded steel plate, and one is a soil sample. In both
cases an identification of the iron-containing phases was required. It
is shown that the applied field technique is capable of eliminating s
ome of the ambiguities present in zero-field Mossbauer experiments, bu
t at an increased cost. The limitations of a simple least-squares mode
l are discussed.
