Stibiconite is a naturally occurring antimony mineral. Studied in this
investigation are five samples using Sb-121 Mossbauer spectroscopy. T
he relative amounts of the oxidation states Sb(III) and Sb(V) are dete
rmined with the ratio of Sb(III) to Sb(V) varying from 0.03 to 0.6. Th
e Mossbauer data collected for these samples along with elemental anal
ysis, provide a better understanding of the structure and composition
of these minerals. A new chemical formula for stibiconite is proposed:
Ca4xSb(III)3-8xSb(V)1+4x(O,OH,H2O)y.
