Mossbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry were used to study non
-superconducting (PrBa2Cu3(Fe)O7-d)-Fe-57 and superconducting (EuBa2Cu
3(Fe)O7-d)-Fe-57 perovskites. Significant differences were observed in
the Mossbauer parameters of Eu- and Pr-containing isostructural cupra
tes. A relatively high isomer shift was found to be characteristic of
iron atoms being present at Cu(1) site in the Pr-containing 1-2-3 comp
ound. This can be considered as a consequence of the suppression of su
perconductivity, by hole-filling, or by hybridization of Pr states wit
h 0 and Cu states, via charge transfer mechanism between the Cu(1)-O c
hain and Cu(2)-O plane.
