Abstract
The accumulation of betaine and the distribution of betaine aldehyde d ehydrogenase, which catalyzes the last step in the synthesis of betain e, were analyzed in leaves of control and salt-stressed cereal plants of the Gramineae. BADH protein was present in both betaine-accumulatin g and nonaccumulating leaves.
