M. Jacobs et al., EYE-MOVEMENT AND ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL FINDINGS IN AN INFANT WITH HEMISPHERIC PATHOLOGY, Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology, 35(5), 1993, pp. 431-435
A visually unresponsive infant had a normal ophthalmological examinati
on. Eye-movement studies using electro-oculography revealed asymmetric
al binocular smooth pursuit, binocular optokinetic nystagmus and vesti
bulo-ocular reflex. Electrophysiological testing showed markedly asymm
etrical occipital flash and pattern visual evoked potentials. Both inv
estigations suggested a posterior right-hemispheric problem, which was
confirmed with cranial ultrasound. This case study illustrates the us
efulness of non-invasive techniques in neuro-ophthalmological investig
ations of young children.
