M. Mullerbrettel, WAR AND PEACE IN THE LIFE OF CHILDREN - PERSPECTIVES FROM DEVELOPMENTAL-PSYCHOLOGY - A LITERATURE-REVIEW, PSYCHOLOGIE IN ERZIEHUNG UND UNTERRICHT, 40(2), 1993, pp. 81-96
The literature review analyses results of research on children's anxie
ties about war, on their attitudes and conceptions of war, peace, and
peace making, and on the socialization of belligerent or pacifist disp
ositions. Coping with anxiety as well as understanding political devel
opments depend not only on the social-cognitive development, but essen
tially on the existence of social structures, that allow to develop em
otional bonds and activities to make a discussion possible on those pr
oblems corresponding to the children's developmental stages.
