We analyze the coherent electroproduction of neutral pions in nuclei.
We find that this process does not contribute to the longitudinal resp
onse function for spin saturated nuclei and the dependence of the cros
s section on the azimuthal pion angle is particularly simple and given
by 1 - epsilon cos 2phi(pi). This angular dependence could be useful
to isolate the coherent contribution in future experiments, offering a
n advantage over coherent photoproduction. The DELTA-peak is considera
bly moved to lower pion energies and appreciably modified due to mediu
m corrections.
